4 min readPrimeXBT is happy to donate to the Save Elephant Foundation in Thailand, an organisation which rescues and rehabilitates exploited and mistreated elephants and animals. Although elephants were once revered as symbols of power and wisdom in countries where they were endemic, like Thailand, today they are frequently exploited in the tourism and logging industry. This, combined with habitat loss due to urbanisation, expansion of infrastructure, and agricultural land, has caused a significant drop in the Thai elephant population.
Mae Mai’s story
We are sponsoring Mae Mai, a beautiful Asian elephant the Foundation recently saved.
The Save Elephant Foundation’s founder visited the elephant riding camp where Mae Mai was used for tourist rides and breeding. Thankfully, her five-week-old baby, Wan Mai, was also rescued from that same camp.
Our sponsorship of Mae Mai will contribute to the cost of her medical care and food.
About Save Elephant Foundation
The foundation is a non-profit organisation that rescues and rehabilitates elephants and other animals in Thailand. To date, it has rescued over 100 elephants and other animals including, boars, buffalos, dogs, rabbits, cows, and cats.
The rescued animals are rehabilitated at the Elephant Nature Park in Northeast Thailand, a safe refuge surrounded by nature. Here, they can recover physically and psychologically with respect and love from the foundation’s volunteers and keepers.
The Save Elephant Foundation’s activities include educational ecotourism, environmental conservation programs, local community outreach, and rescue and rehabilitation programs.
