Turkey's Capital Markets Board has extended a reduced margin trading requirement for brokerages through October 30. The lower ratio was due to expire this week but follows a broader package of measures the regulator introduced after recent market turmoil.
Turkey's Capital Markets Board has extended the reduced minimum equity maintenance requirement for margin trading transactions until October 30, the regulator said Saturday. The extension lets brokerages keep applying the lower ratio according to their own risk policies, rather than reverting to the stricter standard.
The board had lowered the minimum equity maintenance requirement to 20% from 35% on September 17, with that measure originally set to expire on October 2. The latest extension pushes that relief back to October 30.
The September 17 decision was part of a broader package of measures the regulator introduced following market turmoil. On the same date, the board ordered the liquidation of 131 investment funds and imposed additional market restrictions.
