Amazon’s own forecast says sales growth will slow to 9% to 12% this quarter, from 20% in the last one. It isn’t a demand problem. Prime Day moved from July into June this year, so the sale landed in Q2 instead of Q3. The real test comes on Thursday, October 29, 2026: Amazon publishes Q3 2026 earnings after the US close and holds its conference call at 5:00 p.m. ET (2:00 p.m. PT).
So the headline growth rate in the release will look weak by design. What moves the stock is underneath it: how fast AWS grows, and how much cash the AI build-out burns.

Amazon earnings calendar: past and upcoming dates
Amazon reports about four to five weeks after a quarter closes, nearly always on a Thursday. Since EPS includes large swings in the value of Amazon’s Anthropic stake, the table shows operating income as well.

Q3 2026 guidance vs consensus
Amazon gives a forecast for the next quarter. In the Q2 release on July 30, it guided Q3 2026 to:
- Net sales: $197bn to $202bn, growth of 9% to 12% on Q3 2025. Amazon added that, excluding Prime Day in both years, growth would be nearly 400 basis points higher. Its April guidance had already assumed Prime Day would fall in Q2 2026.
- Operating income: $22.5bn to $26.5bn, against $17.4bn a year earlier. That base included a $2.5bn FTC settlement and $1.8bn of severance, so on a clean basis the comparison is $21.7bn.
Analysts sit at the top of the sales range, not the middle:
| Source (date) | EPS | Revenue |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon guidance (Jul 30, 2026) | Not given | $197bn to $202bn |
| MarketBeat (Oct 20, 2026) | $1.96 | $202.16bn |
| Barchart, 56 analysts (Oct 13, 2026) | $2.02 | Not given |
| Q3 2025 actual, for comparison | $1.95 | $180.2bn |
Consensus at $202bn means analysts expect Amazon to beat its own guide. It has done so on sales in each of the last three quarters: $213.4bn against a $206bn to $213bn range in Q4 2025, $181.5bn against $173.5bn to $178.5bn in Q1 2026, and $200.6bn against $194bn to $199bn in Q2. A result in the middle of the range, around $199.5bn, would be “in line with guidance” and still a miss against the Street.
Read EPS with the Anthropic line in mind
Amazon owns a stake in Anthropic and marks it to market through non-operating income. That line added $9.5bn of pre-tax gains in Q3 2025, $16.8bn in Q1 2026 and $53.4bn in Q2 2026. The Q2 figure is why EPS jumped to $5.75 against the $1.82 consensus MarketBeat lists: almost none of that beat came from selling anything.
The gain can just as easily be smaller, or reverse. Before reacting to the EPS line, compare operating income with the guided $22.5bn to $26.5bn range. That is the number the business actually produced.
What could move Amazon stock on October 29
AWS growth
AWS has accelerated for five straight quarters. Segment sales grew 20% in Q3 2025, 24% in Q4, 28% in Q1 2026 and 37% in Q2 to $42.2bn, the fastest rate in 18 quarters. Operating income rose from $11.4bn to $16.6bn over the same period. Andy Jassy said in the Q2 release that AWS’s AI business and Amazon’s chips business had each passed a $25bn annual run rate.
The market rewarded the acceleration with a 15% gain the next day. A Q3 number that holds near 37% keeps that story alive. A drop back toward 30% would test it, even if it is still faster than a year ago.
Capex and free cash flow
This is where Amazon lost the market in February. With the Q4 2025 report, it guided 2026 capital expenditure to about $200bn. Investing.com put the analyst consensus at $146bn. The stock fell 5.6% the next day. In July Amazon raised the figure to about $220bn. Jassy blamed “the higher cost of memory” rather than new capacity, according to TIKR coverage on Yahoo Finance.
The cash impact is already visible. Purchases of property and equipment were $54.2bn in Q2 2026, against $32.2bn a year earlier, and trailing twelve-month free cash flow turned into a $7.6bn outflow. Any first word on 2027 spending will matter as much as the quarter itself.
Advertising and the retail margin
Advertising revenue rose 26% to $19.8bn in Q2 2026. North America retail made $9.1bn of operating income on $116.2bn of sales, and International $1.7bn. With AWS taking the attention, these two lines decide whether the total lands near the top of the operating-income guide or the bottom.
Q4 guidance
The release will include a Q4 forecast covering the holiday quarter. In February, the Q1 operating-income guide of $16.5bn to $21.5bn came with about $1bn of extra costs for Amazon Leo, its satellite network, in the same report that carried the $200bn capex plan. Watch for a similar cost line in the Q4 guide.
How Amazon stock reacts to earnings
Amazon’s post-earnings moves have been large and lopsided. Over the last four reports the next-day close ranged from −5.6% to +15.3%, an average absolute move of about 7.8%. The direction followed AWS and capex, not EPS:
- Q3 2025: AWS growth reached 20%, and the stock closed up 9.6% to a record.
- Q4 2025: EPS of $1.95 missed by a cent against FactSet’s $1.97, and the $200bn capex plan sent shares down more than 10% after hours. They recovered part of it and closed 5.6% lower.
- Q1 2026: AWS accelerated to 28%, but the stock barely moved, closing up 0.8%.
- Q2 2026: 37% AWS growth outweighed a weaker-than-expected Q3 sales guide and the $220bn capex raise. The stock closed up 15.3% at $271.58.
For Q3, the options market prices a smaller move. Unusual Whales put the implied earnings move at about ±6.2% (around $16) on October 20. That estimate changes daily. Two of the last four actual moves were larger than that.
AMZN closed at $262.45 on October 19, according to Yahoo Finance. That is about 8% below the 52-week closing high of $284.02 on August 3, and well above the February 13 low of $198.79.
How to prepare for Amazon earnings
- Put the times in your own time zone. Results arrive around 4:00 p.m. ET, the earnings call at 5:00 p.m. ET, and the first regular session that prices the news opens on Friday, October 30.
- Read the release in this order: AWS growth and operating income, then total operating income against the $22.5bn to $26.5bn guide, then the Q4 forecast, then capex in the cash-flow statement. Leave EPS for last. The guide to reading an earnings report covers the general method.
- Judge sales against $202bn, not against the guidance range. Remember the Prime Day shift when you see growth near 10%.
- Expect wide spreads and price gaps in after-hours trading. In February the stock was down more than 10% after hours and closed down 5.6% the next day, so the first print is not always the final one. Stop orders can fill well past their level. The earnings trading strategies page explains how to plan around it.
- Check the rest of the week. Alphabet reports on October 28, the day before, and the Federal Reserve announces its rate decision the same afternoon. Amazon is one of the largest weights in the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500, and the effect of earnings season on indices shows how one report spreads to both.
For the full Q3 picture, see the earnings season guide and the Alphabet earnings date page from the same week. For a broader look at the stock itself, the Amazon stock trading guide covers the basics.

When is Amazon's next earnings date?
Amazon reports Q3 2026 results on Thursday, October 29, 2026, after the US market close. The conference call starts at 2:00 p.m. PT, which is 5:00 p.m. ET or 21:00 UTC. Amazon confirmed the date in an investor-relations release on October 15, 2026.
Does Amazon report before or after the market opens?
After. Amazon publishes its results after the 4:00 p.m. ET Nasdaq close and holds the call about an hour later. The first regular session to price the Q3 2026 numbers is Friday, October 30.
What is Amazon's guidance for Q3 2026?
In its July 30 release Amazon guided Q3 2026 net sales to $197bn to $202bn, growth of 9% to 12%, and operating income to $22.5bn to $26.5bn. Growth looks slower because Prime Day fell in Q2 this year instead of Q3. Amazon said growth excluding Prime Day would be nearly 400 basis points higher.
Why was Amazon's EPS so high in Q2 2026?
Diluted EPS of $5.75 included $53.4bn of pre-tax non-operating income, mainly from revaluing Amazon's stake in Anthropic. Operating income, at $27.5bn, is the cleaner measure of how the business performed.
How much does Amazon stock usually move after earnings?
Over the last four reports the next-day close ranged from a 5.6% fall in February 2026 to a 15.3% gain in July 2026, an average absolute move of about 7.8%. Options data from Unusual Whales on October 20, 2026 priced a move of about 6.2% either way for the Q3 report.
