Amazon is in talks to acquire Decart, an artificial intelligence startup, in a deal that could be valued at around $7 billion. The Wall Street Journal reported the talks on Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Neither side has confirmed it. Decart and Amazon did not respond to requests for comment, and Reuters could not immediately verify the report.
What Decart builds
Decart's Lucy model, backed by Nvidia, can edit live video in real time, according to the company's website. The startup has also developed Oasis, a model that generates simulated environments to train and test robotics and autonomous-driving systems.
Decart employs more than 60 people and has raised over $450 million, according to Crypto Briefing.
Valuation and rival interest
The Journal, citing PitchBook data, said Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May. That month, Decart raised $300 million in a funding round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as a new investor.
Amazon is not the first reported suitor. Bloomberg News reported that Anthropic explored a deal in August for potentially $6 billion. Last month, Anthropic decided not to pursue an acquisition after conducting due diligence.
What could happen next
According to the Journal report, a deal could happen soon if talks do not fall apart or another suitor doesn't emerge.
