Anthropic has picked Nasdaq for its planned initial public offering, according to a person familiar with the matter, as the AI lab works toward an October listing. Some estimates put the company's valuation target at $2 trillion, more than double the $965 billion mark it reached after a $65 billion Series H round in May 2026. The IPO comes as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says his own company would not go public right now, citing AI safety concerns.

Anthropic has chosen Nasdaq for its potential IPO, according to a person familiar with the company's plans. The company has been targeting an October listing.

Nasdaq beats NYSE for another big listing

The decision hands Nasdaq another high-profile win after the exchange secured the SpaceX listing earlier this year, a company valued at $1.75 trillion. Historically, the New York Stock Exchange has won many of the largest listings, so this year has marked a shift. Nasdaq has stayed consistently strong in tech IPOs, and a listing on its exchange is a prerequisite for inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 Index. Still, there is no definitive answer on whether companies perform better on one exchange than the other, and the two exchanges differ mainly in how they set the opening price on the first trading day.

A valuation well above the last funding round

Anthropic filed a draft S-1 registration statement with the SEC on June 1, 2026, targeting an October window with a roadshow that could begin in mid-October. Some estimates have put Anthropic's valuation at $2 trillion, though that figure has not been finalized. That would be more than double the $965 billion the company reached after closing a $65 billion Series H round in May 2026. The offering could raise as much as $100 billion, with some estimates placing the floor closer to $60 billion. Reports say Nvidia is considering a $10 billion investment as part of the deal, and Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Morgan Stanley are leading the underwriting.

Safety concerns shadow the timeline

The listing push comes as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says his company would not go public right now amid controversy over existential risks from AI. That risk drew more attention last week after a viral post from a former Anthropic employee warning of a greater than 10% human extinction risk.

Anthropic's IPO filing has not yet been made public. The company will need to release its financials at least 15 days before it begins its investor roadshow.
