Anthropic could target an initial public offering as soon as the week of Nov. 9, according to a leaked prospectus. Four stocks stand to gain directly: investors Amazon and Alphabet, and chip suppliers Nvidia and Broadcom.
A leaked copy of Anthropic's prospectus shows the AI lab could target an IPO as soon as the week of Nov. 9, once midterm elections are over. The filing is still technically private, but the details that surfaced point to four stocks positioned to benefit: two investors and two suppliers.
Amazon and Alphabet's stake could turn liquid
Alphabet owns around 15% of Anthropic, while Amazon's stake may run slightly higher, in the 15% to 20% range. If Anthropic goes public at an estimated $2 trillion valuation, the two companies would suddenly hold far more liquid assets. That figure is estimated at $300 billion to $400 billion, once their early investor lockup period ends.
However, Amazon and Alphabet may instead choose to hold their shares, since demand for AI computing-lab investments could push the valuation higher still. Both companies are racing to build out AI computing capacity for internal use and for their cloud businesses, so a cash injection would arrive at a useful moment either way.
Nvidia and Broadcom stand to gain as suppliers
Nvidia and Broadcom round out the list as two of the biggest names among computing-unit suppliers. Nvidia makes the GPUs that are nearly universal in AI computing, while Broadcom partners with AI hyperscalers, including Anthropic, to design custom AI chips. Anthropic also draws on custom chips from Amazon and Alphabet, giving it a wide mix of computing hardware to draw from.
Going public would let Anthropic issue shares to raise capital for more computing power. Right now it must raise money in private markets, and there is limited appetite for additional funding rounds at a company already valued in the trillions. A public listing opens a far larger pool of capital — one the company would likely spend on the hardware that Nvidia and Broadcom supply.
