Berkshire Hathaway increased its Alphabet stake by 83% in the second quarter, making the Google parent its third-largest stock holding. The move extends a broader portfolio overhaul under new CEO Greg Abel, who has already cut Berkshire's equity holdings from roughly 40 positions to 26 and initiated a new stake in Delta Air Lines.

Berkshire Hathaway boosted the size of its investment in Alphabet by 83% in the second quarter, a regulatory filing showed on Friday, making the parent of Google and YouTube its third-largest stock holding.

Alphabet stake nearly doubles in shares

The filing showed Berkshire owned nearly 106 million Alphabet shares worth about $37.8 billion as of June 30, up from 57.8 million shares three months earlier. That stake sat inside a U.S.-listed equity portfolio worth $323.8 billion as of the same date.

A leaner portfolio under Abel

The Alphabet build-up follows a broader shift since Greg Abel took over as CEO from Warren Buffett at the start of the year. Berkshire's prior quarterly filing, covering the first quarter of 2026, showed its equity portfolio shrank from roughly 40 positions to 26, with exits from at least 15 positions including Amazon, UnitedHealth, Visa, and Mastercard.

Berkshire also initiated a new position in Delta Air Lines, purchasing nearly 40 million shares for a stake valued at $2.6 billion, re-entering an industry it had exited entirely. It separately agreed to buy homebuilder Taylor Morrison Home Corp. for about $6.8 billion in equity value.

Even after that spending, Berkshire still held a cash pile of approximately $397 billion as of the first quarter of 2026, leaving Abel room for further deals in the stock market.
