Berkshire Hathaway's Class B shares closed higher for 10 consecutive sessions in October, the first such run since 2018. History offers some encouragement: four of six earlier streaks were followed by higher prices 12 months later, though the sample is small.

Berkshire Hathaway's Class B shares closed higher for 10 consecutive trading sessions from Oct. 1 through Oct. 14, rising from about $498 to $526. The conglomerate is now led by Greg Abel after the retirement of Warren Buffett.

The streak ended on Oct. 15, but the stock then topped $547, beating the record close of $539.89 set in May 2025.

Six earlier streaks, four gains

A 10-day winning run has happened only six other times since 1998, and in four of those instances the shares traded higher 12 months later. The earlier streaks came in 1998, 2003, 2014, twice in 2017, and in January 2018.

The longest came in August 2017, when the shares advanced for 15 consecutive sessions. However, the Motley Fool author notes that six occurrences are a small sample size and that a 67% success rate does not mean Berkshire has a two-thirds chance of rising over the next year.

Abel puts capital to work

The author points to Abel's willingness to deploy Berkshire's financial resources as a reason to own the stock beyond the streak. Berkshire doubled down on its position in Alphabet and added to positions in companies such as Delta Air Lines.

The company has also resumed substantial share repurchases, a stock buyback program that has bought back about $4.4 billion of its own stock. The author cautions that a buyback is not proof the shares are undervalued today, particularly after their recent advance.

Berkshire also outperformed the S&P 500 in 11 of the 13 calendar years when the index posted a negative return. Even so, the author writes that the 10 consecutive gains do not guarantee positive returns 12 months from now, particularly with the shares trading at a record high.
