Bitcoin is consolidating at $77,612 on the five-hour chart, caught inside a bull flag between $75,000 support and resistance near $79,500–$80,000. A close above $79,700 opens the way toward $82,178 and $85,000, while a break below $75,000 risks a slide to the 200-period moving average near $73,846.
Bitcoin's latest five-hour candle is trading at $77,612, holding above the $75,000 support level after a sharp rally. Momentum is stalling now, with bullish and bearish breakout scenarios both set to trigger on the next decisive move.
The pattern resembles a bull flag, a continuation setup traders watch during pauses inside a strong trend, and it is roughly 70% complete. The current close keeps price inside a neutral zone between $77,000 and $79,000, where the ADX reads 15.9, signaling low momentum. Price still sits well above the 200-period moving average at $73,846.
Buyers still hold short-term control, as the MACD shows a bullish crossover. Yet the Money Flow Index sits at 100, warning of overbought conditions and potential reversal risk.
Support sits in the $75,000–$76,400 zone from multiple technical clusters, while resistance stands at $79,500–$80,000, a level marked by recent lower highs and a strong psychological ceiling. A breakout and hold above $79,700 would open room toward $82,178 and possibly $85,000. A close below $75,000, meanwhile, would raise the odds of a pullback toward $73,846 and the $72,882 Fibonacci level.
The setup carries false-breakout risk at $79,700, given the repeated lower highs there, and whipsaws have hit false downside breaks near $75,000. Until Bitcoin clears one of the two levels decisively, mid-range trades have struggled and the risk of a bull or bear trap remains high.
