Chinese tech companies have ordered about 6 million Nvidia RTX Pro 5500 chips, but most of the demand will go unfilled for now. Nvidia shares still rose before the open, and the company reports earnings on November 17.
Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance placed orders for about 6 million RTX Pro 5500 chips, worth roughly $70 billion, Bloomberg reported. However, the three companies expect to receive only a small portion in the coming months. Nvidia is giving priority to its costlier AI processors for customers like OpenAI and Anthropic.
Supply limits add to the backlog. With TSMC capacity tight and shifting toward the next-generation Rubin platform, Chinese buyers estimate deliveries of around 700,000 units by the end of 2027.
Despite the bottleneck, Nvidia shares rose 1.32% to $209.42 before the open. Strong AI outlooks from AMD and Super Micro helped the move. AMD CEO Lisa Su said revenue could rise over 80% in 2027, while Super Micro lifted its full-year forecast to $72 billion to $82 billion.
The stock remains below its 20, 50 and 100-day averages but sits above its 200-day level near $204.56. Next, Nvidia reports on November 17, with revenue expected at $109.17 billion.
