Nvidia has committed $70 billion in direct equity investments into AI ecosystem partners including OpenAI and Anthropic, according to Bank of America. Analysts view the commitment as easily covered by Nvidia's free cash flow, and future public listings by these private AI companies could add value for Nvidia shareholders. The stock trades about 5% below its 52-week high ahead of the company's Aug. 26 earnings report.
Nvidia has committed to directly providing $70 billion in equity investments into ecosystem partners, per new research from Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya. The stakes include $30 billion in OpenAI, up to $10 billion in Anthropic, and $5 billion in Safe Superintelligence.
Nvidia's investment portfolio
Arya wrote that Nvidia can generate as much as about $470 billion of free cash flow over just the next two years (2026-2027), which puts the $70 billion commitment at about 15% of that total. As a result, Arya sees no issue with Nvidia's pledge to return 50% of free cash flow to shareholders, a commitment the company made in May 2026. According to Arya: "we see no issue in Nvidia returning 50% of free cash flow to shareholders".
Shares near 52-week high ahead of earnings
Nvidia's stock has gained 4% in the past month, while the S&P 500 rose 2.4% over the same stretch. That rally leaves Nvidia shares about 5% below their $236.54 52-week high heading into the company's Aug. 26 earnings report.
Caution before earnings
The market is positioned for Nvidia to post something great and for CEO Jensen Huang to sound super bullish on the earnings call. However, investors see minimal downside risk to Nvidia's investment portfolio, given the rising valuations being afforded to most privately held AI names.
Arya noted that the stock came under pressure following the last April 4 and June 10 earnings, as expectations were elevated. Still, he remains positive on Nvidia's next-gen Vera Rubin product cycle, which he expects to further cement the company's about 70% industry share.
