Qatar's foreign ministry says its forces shot down Iranian aircraft engaged in an act of aggression, escalating tensions tied to the Iran-Israel-US conflict. Prediction markets cut the odds of a finalized Iran-Oman agreement on the Strait of Hormuz to 34.5% by August 31, down from 57% a week earlier. Qatar has also signaled reduced urgency on a separate dispute over Iranian pilots, even as longer-term airspace-closure risk stays priced in.

Qatar's foreign ministry said its forces shot down Iranian aircraft involved in what it called an act of aggression, an escalation inside the broader Iran-Israel-US conflict. The incident centers on the Strait of Hormuz, the waterway where diplomatic and military maneuvering continues on parallel tracks. Qatar's direct engagement points to an elevated level of confrontation that could affect the ongoing Iran-Oman talks.

Prediction markets show reduced confidence in a finalized Iran-Oman agreement on the Strait of Hormuz. Odds on a deal by August 31 dropped to 34.5% YES, down from 57% a week earlier. Observers are watching for further statements from Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Oman's Foreign Ministry ahead of the deadline.

A separate Qatari statement points the other way. A foreign ministry spokesperson said Qatar and Iran are talking directly about the status of Iranian pilots, dismissing Iran's request to involve the International Committee of the Red Cross as a media maneuver. The statement signals less urgency around the pilots dispute.

Markets picked up on the shift. The odds of a full Iranian airspace closure by August 31 fell to 6.5% YES, down from 10% a week earlier. Odds for a closure by December 31 sit higher, at 34% YES, reflecting a longer timeline and a different read on the risk.
