SoftBank Group has expanded a margin loan backed by its Arm Holdings shares by $5 billion, bringing the facility to $25 billion. The extra funding backs SoftBank's growing artificial intelligence bets, even as its OpenAI stake faces fresh uncertainty.
SoftBank Group Corp. expanded its margin loan backed by shares of chip unit Arm Holdings Plc by $5 billion to reach $25 billion, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The Japanese investment company renegotiated the terms and completed a deal with creditors this month, according to Bloomberg's report.
The increased loan gives SoftBank additional funding as the conglomerate expands its investments in artificial intelligence. Its $60 billion commitment to OpenAI sits at the heart of SoftBank's AI bets.
The OpenAI exposure also provided some recent headwinds for the company, after OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the startup will not seek an initial public offering in 2026.
