SpaceX is cutting Starlink prices by half in Memphis, Tennessee, as it confronts community opposition and legal challenges tied to its data center operations. The move looks aimed at rebuilding local support while xAI’s facilities draw pollution complaints.
SpaceX is offering Starlink customers in Memphis half off the normal monthly price, as the Elon Musk-led company faces mounting pressure from residents and legal fights over its data center operations in Tennessee and nearby Mississippi.
Customers who opt in could pay half of Starlink’s usual rate, with regular plans running $55 to $130 per month. SpaceX said the discount can be shared with friends and family, and new users will not pay upfront hardware costs.
The offer could reflect an effort to win back local goodwill as xAI’s data centers face criticism over pollution. SpaceX bought xAI earlier this year and has agreed to resume building a recycled wastewater plant in Memphis, expected to clean water for both its Colossus plants and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
