The US Senate rejected a Democratic-led resolution that sought to require congressional authorization for the war with Iran, voting 49 to 47 against advancing it. The vote landed as reports pointed to fresh explosions across the Gulf and Israel signaled it is bracing for wider escalation.

The US Senate voted 49 to 47 against advancing a measure that would have halted the Iran war until Congress authorized hostilities. Reuters reported the resolution was Democratic-led and reflected growing congressional concern over the war, even among President Donald Trump's Republicans.

Earlier the same day, the House passed its own Iran War Powers resolution, a reminder that Congress claims a role in approving any move to war. Even so, a large majority of Republicans voted to back the war and cede those powers to Trump, according to InvestingLive.

Those votes came as Middle East tensions kept escalating. Iranian outlet ISNA reported powerful explosions on Kuwait's Bubiyan Island, while Mehr News said an explosion occurred in Kuwait. Separate reports indicated an explosion was heard on Iran's Qeshm Island after a missile strike reportedly hit the coastal area near the city of Souza.

Israel, meanwhile, appears to be preparing for the possibility of further escalation. According to N12, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office will hold a limited security discussion tomorrow afternoon as tensions rise. Israeli officials told Ynet they believe the region is "headed for escalation," while emphasizing that Israel's current assessment is that it would enter the conflict directly only if attacked.
