Binance will suspend deposits and withdrawals on the Base network at about 17:00 UTC on September 30, 2026, to support Base's Cobalt hard fork. Trading of Base-network tokens continues as normal, and the exchange will reopen transfers once the upgraded network is stable.
Binance has announced support for a hard fork on Base, the Ethereum layer 2 network incubated by Coinbase. The exchange will pause deposits and withdrawals of Base-network tokens at about 17:00 UTC on September 30, 2026, to accommodate the network's Cobalt upgrade.
The upgrade and hard fork are expected around 18:00 UTC on September 30, 2026. Binance said trading of tokens on the Base network will not be affected, as it will handle all technical requirements on behalf of users. The exchange added that deposits and withdrawals will reopen once the network is deemed stable, without a separate announcement.
Several changes arrive with Cobalt. It improves the B20 token standard, letting users pay transaction fees in B20 tokens, schedule multiplier updates, and apply new Union and Intersect policies. The upgrade also introduces validity transactions and Dynamic Upgrades, an Ethereum smart contract that stores upgrade timestamps for Base nodes so they can query the contract and apply changes live.
It also changes how the network registers Trusted Execution Environment signers: AWS Nitro attestations will be verified fully onchain using checked P-384 hints, replacing the RISC Zero and Boundless proving flow.
A separate upgrade called Denim, planned for October 2026, would add native blocks on a 200-millisecond cadence, onchain millisecond time through BaseTime, and millisecond-resolution RPC timestamps.
