Bitcoin has dropped back below its 100-hour and 200-hour moving averages, handing sellers the short-term technical edge. The pullback follows a rally that took the coin to its highest level since May, but buyers have yet to clear the resistance zones that would restore bullish momentum.

Bitcoin is trading near $77,148 after touching a low of $76,229 today, pulling the price below both its 100-hour and 200-hour moving averages. That leaves sellers with the short-term technical advantage.

Hourly averages turn against buyers

The 100-hour moving average now sits at $78,025. The 200-hour average sits just above it, at $78,436. Bitcoin has crossed below and back above these levels repeatedly since its late-August peak, a pattern that points to a less decisive fight between buyers and sellers. Staying below them keeps the short-term bias bearish; reclaiming and holding above both would shift the outlook toward buyers.

The rally that got Bitcoin here

The advance began on August 19, when Bitcoin moved above both its 100-day moving average near $66,200 and its 200-day moving average near $69,000 in a single day. Buyers then pushed the price to $81,455 on August 28, its highest level since May. Since that peak, however, the price has moved up and down without extending the rally further.

Resistance still ahead on the daily chart

Bitcoin's broader decline had taken the price from its all-time high of $126,272 to a late-June low of $57,735. The rebound since then has not yet reached the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement near $83,916, a level that would mark a stronger case for a lasting reversal. The August 28 high also stalled inside a swing area between $80,560 and $82,833 dating back to November 2025.

The first test for buyers is the $78,025-$78,436 moving-average zone. Clearing and holding above it would shift the short-term advantage back their way, before attention turns to the $80,560-$82,833 resistance area and then the $83,916 retracement. Until those hurdles are cleared, sellers keep the short-term edge.
