US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $228.6 million over the five trading days ending October 16, 2026, pushing month-to-date net outflows to roughly $615 million. BlackRock's IBIT led the exits, while cumulative inflows since January 2024 have reached approximately $56.88 billion.
Investors pulled $228.6 million from US spot Bitcoin ETFs over the five trading days ending October 16, 2026. That brings month-to-date net outflows to roughly $615 million, with some tallies putting the figure closer to $618 million.
BlackRock and Fidelity lead the redemptions
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) led the retreat. The fund saw approximately $165 million leave during the week, including $71.8 million on October 16 alone.
Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) also posted outflows on October 16, but its share was smaller, at $10.6 million.
The sharpest single-day hit came on October 7, when outflows peaked at $487.1 million. Meanwhile, daily volume across the funds exceeded $2 billion on various sessions during October.
The outflows against the funds' size
The funds launched in January 2024, and cumulative inflows since then have reached approximately $56.88 billion. Total assets under management stood at $104.29 billion as of mid-October, so the month's outflows represent well under 1% of that figure. The funds collectively hold roughly 1.276 million BTC.
Redemptions matter beyond the ledger, however. Every share redeemed can require an issuer to reduce its Bitcoin holdings or its cash position, so outflows can translate into actual selling in the underlying market.
What the exits may signal
The outflows do not necessarily mean institutions have lost faith in Bitcoin. A week of redemptions can reflect rebalancing, profit-taking, or shifting allocations across a broader portfolio.
The next data points to watch are whether IBIT's redemptions slow or accelerate, and whether the month-to-date total climbs beyond the $618 million mark.
