US spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $101.2 million on Sept. 2, rebounding a day after losing $236.5 million, while Ethereum, XRP and Solana funds posted their first outflows in nearly two weeks. Bitcoin's price is holding above $78,000 but has yet to clear the resistance that has capped it since late August.
US spot Bitcoin ETFs returned to inflows on Sept. 2, taking in $101.2 million a day after shedding $236.5 million, the fourth consecutive session of funds swinging between buying and selling. That followed $216.7 million of inflows on Aug. 31 and $201.9 million of withdrawals on Aug. 28, leaving the group without sustained direction.
Bitcoin holds above $78,000 as ETF flows swing
Bitcoin's price has moved in step with the choppy flows. BTC closed Aug. 27 around $80,268 before falling to $77,821 the next day, recovering to $78,553 on Aug. 31 and slipping back toward $77,300 by Sept. 2. Despite the swings, Bitcoin ETFs have drawn more than $3 billion over the past 30 days, contributing to a 22% price gain over that period.
CryptoPotato's technical read points to a similar standoff. BTC is testing resistance near $82,000 on the daily chart, a level that would need to break to open the way toward $95,600. The $72,000 zone stands as the first major support below current prices, while a break of $76,000 on the 4-hour chart could trigger a deeper pullback.
Ether, XRP and Solana lose their inflow streaks
The break in Bitcoin's pattern contrasts with a sharper reversal among altcoin funds. Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded about $48 million in net outflows, snapping 12 consecutive days of inflows that had pulled in roughly $1.62 billion and pushed cumulative inflows to about $13.03 billion.
XRP ETFs also turned negative, posting $7.2 million of withdrawals after 11 straight sessions that added about $170 million, while Solana funds saw roughly $6 million of outflows, ending an 11-session streak that brought in about $193 million. Newer products including Hyperliquid and BNB ETFs registered zero net flows that day.
What August's rally added up to
The current whipsaw follows a strong month. According to SoSoValue data cited by 99Bitcoins, US spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in roughly $3.52 billion in August, well above July's approximately $172 million, while Bitcoin gained about 25% over the month, its best since November 2024. Total net assets across the funds climbed from $76.29 billion in July to about $99.61 billion by the end of August.
For now, Bitcoin ETFs are buying again just as the altcoin funds that outran them for two weeks stall.
