US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in approximately $3 billion between September 17 and September 25, 2026, pushing the year's flow tally positive. Net outflows resumed in early October, leaving open whether the surge was a pause or a turn.
US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in approximately $3 billion in net inflows between September 17 and September 25, 2026. The burst pushed the year's flow tally out of the red.
Peak week led by BlackRock
The peak week alone delivered $2.4 billion in net inflows, the largest weekly haul since October 2025. BlackRock's IBIT led with around $1.2 billion, while Fidelity's FBTC added roughly $702 million and ARK 21Shares' ARKB about $295 million.
The year-to-date picture changed. By mid-July the funds carried a deficit of about $5.8 billion, and by late September that had become a net positive of about $934 million.
Bitcoin traded between $82,000 and $87,000 during the period.
Who is doing the buying
Crypto Briefing reports that hedge funds appear to have played only a minor role this time. The Motley Fool, however, points to evidence that hedge funds are responsible for at least some of the inflows through a basis trade, in which a fund buys ETF shares and sells futures contracts to capture the gap between the two.
The Motley Fool adds that wallets holding between 100 and 1,000 BTC added 113,950 BTC from mid-July to late September 2026, per Santiment data.
Record quarter, then outflows
Q3 2026 recorded $6.34 billion in Bitcoin ETF inflows, the highest of any quarter this year. Cumulative net inflows since launch reached approximately $57-58 billion by early October, with total assets under management around $105-110 billion.
The momentum faded, though. Net outflows resumed in early October 2026, including a $244 million outflow on October 8.
