Bitcoin stalled near $85,000 on Saturday after a rally above $87,000 the day before collapsed. Prediction markets and two AI models are now naming a wide range of year-end targets, from Kalshi's $86,240 to ChatGPT-6 Astra's $94,000.
Bitcoin's price spent Saturday trapped close to $85,000 after Friday's charge above $87,000 collapsed. Around it, prediction-market traders and two AI models were asked to each name a single Dec. 31 price, and the answers landed all over the board.
Friday's Rally Fades
Bitcoin opened around $84,600 to $84,800 on Friday, ripped to roughly $87,100 to $87,240, then surrendered the move and closed near $84,300 to $84,500. By midday Saturday, bitcoin's price sat around $84,829, up roughly 0.6% from Friday's close.
The broader picture stayed just as stubborn. Bitcoin closed near $84,000 on Sept. 26, fell toward $82,550 to $82,600 on Sept. 28, then steadied around $83,500 to $83,650 into month-end before an Oct. 1 bounce pushed it back toward the mid-$84,000s. Across seven days bitcoin gained only about 0.7% and remained roughly 30% below its October 2025 peak just above $126,000.
Polymarket Leaves the Door Open to Six Figures
Polymarket's "What price will Bitcoin hit in 2026?" market has generated more than $72.6 million in volume, with a reference price around $84,950. Traders give bitcoin a 73% implied probability of touching $90,000 before 2027 and 54% odds of reaching $95,000. The $100,000 threshold sits at 39%, $110,000 at 17%, and $120,000 at just 9%. On the downside, a drop to $70,000 carries 31% odds, $65,000 stands at 17%, and $60,000 at 13%.
However, Polymarket's contracts ask whether specific highs or lows get touched before the end of 2026, not whether bitcoin closes there on Dec. 31 — a distinction that gives the board its bite.
Kalshi and Two AI Models Pick Narrower Numbers
Kalshi asks the tighter question of where bitcoin will actually finish the year, and its market forecast stands at $86,240 on roughly $39.5 million in volume. The $80,000 to $84,999.99 bracket carries a 13.3% implied probability, the $85,000 to $89,999.99 bracket stands at 13.1%, and $75,000 to $79,999.99 follows at 11.6%. Kalshi settles the bet using the CF Benchmarks Bitcoin Real Time Index, calculated from 60 one-second price prints in the final minute before midnight.
Bitcoin.com News then put the same question to Claude Opus 5.5 and ChatGPT-6 Astra, asking each for one specific Dec. 31 price. Claude Opus 5.5 pointed to bitcoin sitting between $82,500 support and $87,000 resistance and landed on $91,500. ChatGPT-6 Astra came in higher at $94,000.
Despite crypto forecasting's history of producing heroic targets with almost comic ease, nobody in this exercise appears particularly eager to call for fireworks this time.
