Bitcoin's spot trading volume rose across major exchanges in September, but the increase has not yet produced the demand needed to push the price toward $90,000. The asset was trading near $86,248 at press time, with a breakout above $87,400 seen as the next step toward that level.
Bitcoin's spot market is recovering from its July drop-off, though the rebound remains too small to confirm stronger demand. Binance led the recovery, with September volume reaching $50 billion, up from $42 billion in July.
Bybit followed at $19 billion versus $14 billion. Kraken's figures doubled from $4 billion to $8 billion. The data suggests traders are returning as the price regains momentum, but the growth appears minor across all platforms. Higher trading volume has not yet translated into the stronger demand needed to sustain Bitcoin's long-term upside.
Liquidity clusters frame the next move
As spot activity recovers, Bitcoin's next move will also depend on how leveraged positions react to price swings. The largest cluster of these positions sits near $90,000, where forced short closures could turn a steady advance into a faster squeeze.
That makes the level more than simple resistance, since liquidations could add buying pressure once the price reaches it. Smaller clusters sit at $83,000 and $75,000, and a drop below these levels may trigger aggressive closing of leveraged long positions, adding selling pressure instead. A break toward $90,000 could therefore amplify gains, while losing $83,000 could quickly deepen the downside.
Bitcoin tests the $87,400 ceiling
After rebounding from $84,000, Bitcoin was trading at nearly $86,248 at press time. Since breaking above the $82,561 area, it has maintained a higher-low structure while repeatedly approaching the $87,400 ceiling.
Sellers have pushed back at that resistance several times, keeping the price within a tight range. Still, each pullback has found buyers at progressively higher levels, preserving the bullish structure. A sustained move above $87,400 could open a path toward $89,000 and strengthen the case for a run at $90,000, while losing $84,000 would expose $82,561 as the next support.
