Bitcoin climbed past $81,000 for the first time in two weeks after a volatile week that included a failed Senate vote on crypto legislation and a Federal Reserve rate hike. Ether, XRP, and Solana all posted gains alongside it, and the total crypto market cap added $150 billion in a single day.
Bitcoin recovers from a rough week
Bitcoin jumped past $81,000 for the first time in two weeks and held the level through the weekend. The move followed a rocky stretch that began with the coin sitting around $77,000 after the prior week's volatility around US CPI data.
The largest swing came on Tuesday, when the US Senate rejected advancing the CLARITY Act, a key crypto bill. Bitcoin reacted immediately, dropping to $75,000. The next day brought another jolt: the Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the first time in over three years, and bitcoin dipped before recovering to $76,500 within minutes.
But buyers stepped back in after that. Bitcoin climbed to $78,000 on Friday morning, then surged through $80,000 and $81,000 during US trading hours.
Its market cap has risen to $1.630 trillion. Its dominance over the rest of the crypto market sits at 58.7% on CMC.
Ether, XRP, and Solana join the move
Ether is up 5% on the day and has reclaimed $2,600. XRP has jumped past $1.40 after a 6.4% gain, and Solana is above $110 following a 5.4% pump.
Several smaller tokens, including ENA, AVAX, MORPHO, SKY, INJ, and PIEVERSE, posted double-digit gains. Not every token joined the rally, though: BTW slumped more than 9% and fell below $0.60.
As a result, the total crypto market cap has added $150 billion in a day, reaching $2.780 trillion on CMC.
