BlackRock's digital asset holdings rose 63% to $79.6 billion in the third quarter, helped by $7.9 billion of investor inflows and rising crypto prices. The total remains 23% below the level of a year ago.
BlackRock's digital assets jumped 63% to $79.6 billion at the end of September, up from $48.8 billion at the end of June. The asset manager reported the figures in its third-quarter earnings report, released Wednesday.
Investors added $7.9 billion to BlackRock's digital asset products during the quarter. That more than made up for the roughly $2.2 billion they withdrew during the first six months of 2026.
Market gains drive most of the increase
Rising crypto prices did most of the work. Of the $30.8 billion BlackRock added in digital assets during the quarter, $22.9 billion came from market gains, while investors contributed $7.9 billion.
Crypto Briefing reports that Bitcoin rose more than 42% during the quarter, moving from approximately $58,564 to around $84,000.
Price gains can inflate assets under management on their own, but inflows show that investors chose to put fresh capital to work, according to Crypto Briefing.
Holdings still trail last year's level
Even after the rebound, BlackRock's crypto holdings remain 23% below the nearly $104 billion it managed a year ago.
Investors did not abandon the products to cause that gap. Over the past 12 months, BlackRock's digital asset funds attracted $6.3 billion in net new money, but declines in the market value of those assets erased $30.6 billion.
BlackRock, which operates the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), earned $39 million in quarterly fees and securities lending revenue from its digital asset products. The earnings release did not provide separate asset or flow figures for its bitcoin fund.
