Cardano's ADA rallied toward $0.20 this week, gaining as much as 18% as large holders bought more than 240 million tokens ahead of the network's Dijkstra development era. Trading volume jumped more than 116% in 24 hours, but a cluster of leveraged positions near $0.196–$0.198 and an overbought RSI reading stand between ADA and a longer rally.

Cardano's ADA has become the best-performing cryptocurrency of the past week, trading at around $0.2014 on Aug. 7, an 18% weekly gain, according to CoinGecko. The advance follows a multi-year low of under $0.14 in June, when a year-long decline finally found a bottom.

Whale buying and a network upgrade drive the rally

Large holders bought more than 240 million ADA in less than a week ahead of the breakout that pushed the token above $0.20. Futures activity also accelerated, with weekly trading volume reportedly rising from about $150 million to nearly $650 million.

The rally coincided with Cardano entering its Dijkstra development era, which Intersect said followed the Van Rossem hard fork in July. Cardano Community said on X that the hard fork was proposed, voted on, and ratified entirely through on-chain governance for the first time. Rand Group argued that reclaiming the $0.25 level would confirm a reversal from Cardano's yearly downtrend, writing: "Recovering the key 25 cents support range would trigger the full bullish reversal."

Momentum builds, but ADA nears overbought territory

Trading volume on Binance topped $334 million over 24 hours, a jump of more than 116%. Binance's top traders remained net long, with the long-to-short ratio near 1.83.

ADA has also reclaimed its 20-day and 50-day moving averages, though the 100-day average, between roughly $0.197 and $0.20, is acting as immediate resistance. The Relative Strength Index has pushed above 70, a level that typically flags overbought conditions, though strong trends and rising volume can keep readings elevated for extended periods.

Liquidation clusters and a looming ETF deadline

A three-day liquidation heatmap from CoinGlass shows dense leveraged positions between $0.196 and $0.198, just below the current market. Sellers cluster between $0.207 and $0.210, a zone bulls must clear to retest the weekly high.

Cardano's decentralized finance ecosystem holds about $68 million in total value locked, well behind larger layer-1 networks. The token also remains more than 90% below its $3.10 all-time high. A proposed spot ADA ETF also faces an Oct. 23 regulatory deadline that could keep institutional access in focus.
