Codelco reported a mudslide at its El Teniente mine in Chile on Sunday, affecting three workers. One has been rescued, and efforts are underway to reach the other two. The company gave no details on the status of operations.
Chile's state-owned copper miner Codelco said a mudslide had occurred at its El Teniente mine on Sunday. Three workers were affected by the incident.
Rescue efforts continue for two workers
Codelco said one of the three workers had been rescued, and that efforts were underway to reach the two others. In the same statement, it said the other two had been located and rescue efforts were underway. It did not specify the workers' conditions.
In its statement, Codelco said: "One of them was rescued and taken to a medical facility", according to Reuters.
Heavy rain triggered the slide
The company said heavy rainfall in central Chile had triggered the landslide at the mine's open-pit operation. Codelco said actions to safeguard the three workers were activated immediately.
However, the company did not provide details on the status of operations following the incident.
