The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has outlined a 25-security launch for its tokenization service on Canton Network and a private Besu blockchain. Tokens will be backed 1:1 by securities held at DTC, while Stellar and Circle's Arc are anticipated in 2027.
DTCC has outlined a 25-security launch for its tokenization service, starting with selected U.S. stocks, exchange-traded funds and Treasuries. The service will run on Canton Network and DTCC's private Besu blockchain.
The company shared an at-a-glance overview on Oct. 16 that labels roughly $30 trillion as "assets available to be tokenized" according to DTCC's overview. That figure measures eligibility, not how much has been issued onchain. DTCC separately reported $114 trillion in securities under custody and servicing at The Depository Trust Company (DTC) for 2025.
Tokens mirror book-entry securities
For participating institutions, the service lets DTC-held securities move between traditional book-entry and tokenized forms. According to the overview, the tokens keep the same CUSIP identifier, rights and investor protections as book-entry securities. DTC keeps the official books and records.
DTCC reported processing production trades with tokenized securities on July 15 on Besu and Canton, ahead of a planned October launch.
Round-the-clock transfers, business-day conversions
At launch, the service supports 24/7 peer-to-peer transfers within a blockchain network between DTC-registered wallets. The tokens carry transfer restrictions, so they cannot move freely to any crypto wallet.
Conversion orders, however, run on a narrower schedule. They are accepted from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET on business days through the user interface or API, with a target processing time of 15 minutes or less.
The initial securities include selected large-cap Russell 1000 stocks, ETFs and U.S. Treasury bills, notes and bonds. DTCC plans to expand the eligible selection over time.
Stellar and Arc listed for 2027
Stellar and Circle's Arc are anticipated in 2027, rather than as launch networks. The roadmap also includes additional securities, expanded corporate-action servicing and settlement features.
Treasury distributions and maturity payments will still be made in fiat to participants' traditional accounts at launch. Digital cash and onchain netting sit on the 2027-and-beyond roadmap.
