Ethereum core developers are narrowing the field of proposals for Hegotá, the network upgrade currently planned for 2027. FOCIL remains the only feature formally scheduled, while teams debate account abstraction, gas pricing and validator rules ahead of a September deadline.
Execution client teams must submit their ranked Hegotá proposal preference lists by Sept. 10, core developers agreed, as the list of candidate upgrades for 2027 gets trimmed down. Dozens of proposals are still under review, but only one has cleared the bar so far.
FOCIL is the only scheduled feature so far
EIP-7805, known as Fork Choice enforced Inclusion Lists, is currently Hegotá's only scheduled EIP. FOCIL lets a committee of validators publish transaction inclusion lists that block builders are expected to honor, with attesters refusing blocks that improperly omit eligible transactions. The design targets censorship resistance as block construction grows more specialized.
Ethereum researcher Toni Wahrstätter said on Aug. 16 that 66 proposals were being considered across the broader Hegotá discussion. That figure should not be read as 66 approved features, though — the official Hegotá Meta EIP lists FOCIL as the sole item scheduled for inclusion, with Frame Transactions considered and dozens of others at earlier stages.
Frame Transactions face a decision in late August
Native account abstraction remains less settled. EIP-8141 would introduce Frame Transactions, letting transaction validation, execution and gas payment be defined through programmable frames, with goals including alternative signature schemes, key rotation and gas sponsorship. Ethereum researcher Toni Wahrstätter wrote on X: "Ethereum's next year's upgrade, Hegotá, is being scoped right now."
He argued Frame Transactions should join FOCIL as part of a native privacy stack, though that remains his position rather than a core developer decision. At the Aug. 13 All Core Developers Execution call, teams agreed to compare EIP-8141 with EIP-8130 at an Aug. 25 breakout, with a decision targeted for the Aug. 27 ACDE meeting.
Gas repricing proposals target further scaling
Several candidates would make larger blocks safer. EIP-8368 would recalibrate state creation pricing if Ethereum raises its gas limit beyond the reference level used by Glamsterdam.
Glamsterdam is currently targeting a 200 million gas limit. Developers said during ACDE #243 the work aims to prepare for a possible path toward 600 million gas.
Other ideas remain under debate, including eight-second slots, anti-correlation validator penalties, post-quantum cryptography and changes to ETH issuance — none of them confirmed Hegotá features.
Core developers said the proposed-for-inclusion list should be finalized by late August, and proposals without an active champion can be removed from consideration. Until then, FOCIL stays the only Hegotá feature formally scheduled for inclusion.
