The Ethereum Foundation has appointed security researcher pcaversaccio to its board for an initial one-year voluntary term, bringing the group to four members. The move comes during a leadership overhaul at the organization, with high-profile departures and new Ethereum-focused ventures spinning out.
The Ethereum Foundation has appointed longtime ecosystem contributor pcaversaccio to its board, expanding the leadership group that governs the organization behind the world's second-largest blockchain. He joins for an initial one-year voluntary term.
His addition brings the board to four members: President Aya Miyaguchi, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Swiss legal counsel Patrick Storchenegger and pcaversaccio.
A security researcher joins Ethereum's governing body
pcaversaccio, known as "pc", co-founded the emergency response initiative SEAL 911 and has served on the EF's Silviculture Society, an advisory group that provides informal guidance on preserving the foundation's core principles, including censorship resistance, open source development, privacy and security.
Beyond that response work, he has built widely used open-source security tools for Ethereum developers, among them CreateX, a universal smart contract deployment framework, and snekmate, a security-focused library for Vyper contracts. He also authored The Ethereum Cypherpunk Manifesto in 2024 and Ethereum Privacy: The Road to Self-Sovereignty in 2025, both arguing for stronger privacy protections across the Ethereum ecosystem.
What the board actually does
The board sets the EF's strategic vision and ensures management's decisions remain aligned with the organization's values, according to the Foundation. It also serves as a security council tasked with safeguarding the foundation's mission and ensuring compliance with the laws of Switzerland, where the EF is currently based.
Writing on X, the Foundation welcomed the appointment: "We look forward to working together to help steward Ethereum’s long-term future."
The Foundation reshapes its role
pc's appointment lands during a period of significant change at the Ethereum Foundation. In recent months a number of high-profile researchers and executives have departed, with several launching new Ethereum-focused ventures outside the foundation, as the EF reshapes its role around long-term stewardship rather than acting as the center of ecosystem development.
Those new organizations now seek a greater role in the ecosystem alongside the Foundation. ETH Ventures, backed by Consensus and BitMine, launched to accelerate investment across Ethereum, while Ethereum Institutional emerged to promote enterprise adoption and institutional engagement with the network.
The board expansion does not alter Ethereum's technical roadmap.
