Ethereum opened 2.1% higher on Thursday, its best opening level of the week, before easing back slightly by mid-morning. The move tracks a broader risk-on shift as Iran-Hormuz negotiations continue and a weak U.S. jobs print lowers the odds of a Fed rate hike next month.
Ethereum opened at $1,906.96 on Thursday, August 6, 2026, up 2.1% from Wednesday's opening price, its highest opening level of the week. By 9:40 a.m. ET, the price had eased to $1,901.84.
Ether is up 7% over the past month. It remains down 47.2% from a year earlier, and over the past week ether is down 0.1% from its opening price seven days earlier.
Bitcoin and ether both opened at their highest levels of the week on Thursday. The pair is also showing positive month-over-month gains. Investors are easing more into risk assets amid ongoing negotiations in Iran to partially open the Strait of Hormuz. An underwhelming July jobs report from ADP is also supporting the move, since the miss reduces the chances of a rate increase after the Fed's meeting next month.
Ether's all-time high remains $4,953.73, set on Aug. 24, 2025; its all-time low was $0.4209 on Oct. 21, 2015.
