Ethereum closed July near $1,900, up roughly 20% after early-month declines pushed the token toward $1,500 — its best monthly performance in a year. The rally followed six straight red months tied to a pullback from Ether's all-time high in August 2025, and it outpaced Bitcoin's 9% gain over the same stretch.

Ethereum closed July at around $1,900, a roughly 20% gain after the token dipped toward $1,500 early in the month and rocketed to $1,980 before sellers rejected the level. The move marked Ether's best month in a year and outpaced Bitcoin's more modest 9% rise over the same stretch.

A Grim Stretch Before the Rebound

Ether's slide began after its all-time high in August 2025, when the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap turned in six straight red monthly closes. November fell 22.38%, January dropped 17.52%, and February slid 19.81%.

A minor relief rally followed, as March and April each gained around 7%. The bears returned in May, dragging Ether down 11%. June proved harsher for the entire market as Ether dumped 21.7%.

Against that backdrop, expectations for July were high. Historically the month hasn't been Ethereum's best, but every green July on record still brought double-digit gains — and this year's rebound held to that pattern.

History's Mixed Record for August

Warning signs have appeared about Ether's short-term price path, yet August has delivered major gains for the largest altcoin over the years. The 2017 edition saw the token skyrocket nearly 93%, 2020 brought a 25.32% surge, and 2021 added another 35.62% gain. August 2025 also delivered double-digit gains and pushed Ether to a new all-time high.

Still, the other six Augusts since 2016 have closed in the red. The 2018 bear market cut Ether almost 35%, 2019 brought another 21.31% drop, and 2024 fell 22.21%.
