A Genesis-era Ethereum wallet moved 2,680 ETH worth $5.03 million on Aug. 11, 2026, after sitting untouched for 11 years. The transfer is the latest in a string of dormant ETH wakeups stretching back to July, with four wallets moving a combined 8,680 ETH since then.

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, onchain trackers caught a Genesis ethereum wallet moving 2,680 ETH worth $5.03 million after 11 years of inactivity. The stash was worth just $830 when it was first funded, meaning the long-forgotten pile delivered a 605,924% gain.

What Genesis ETH Means

"Genesis ETH" refers to coins tracing back to Ethereum's earliest days, particularly those allocated when the network launched its crowdsale on July 22, 2014. During that 2014 initial coin offering, early buyers grabbed ETH for $0.31 per coin. When the Genesis wallet spotted by Whale Alert on Tuesday finally moved, ether traded at $1,883.66 per unit.

This was not the only Genesis-era wallet stirring in August. Whale Alert also caught a pre-mine holder moving 2,000 ETH worth $3.8 million on Aug. 8, 2026 — a stash worth a measly $620 back in 2015. Arkham Intelligence data shows that stash ultimately landed at Coinbase.

Ethereum's Pre-Mine Origins

Ethereum's creators pre-mined roughly 72 million ETH before the blockchain went live. They didn't keep all of it: roughly 60 million ETH went to buyers through the public crowdsale, which pulled in 31,591 BTC over 42 days. That left roughly 12 million ETH for insiders, split evenly between Ethereum's founders and early contributors on one side and the Ethereum Foundation on the other.

A Cluster of July Awakenings

July logged two more Genesis-era wakeups, each moving 2,000 ETH. One stash shifted on July 20, landing at Australian exchange Coinjar, while the other moved on July 26 and was scattered across several wallets. Together with August's transfers, four Genesis whale wallets have moved 8,680 ETH since July.

These repeated awakenings among early ETH holders are getting harder to ignore. Wallets that survived a decade of price swings, exchange blowups, and forgotten keys are now stirring in clusters rather than isolation — putting supply that markets had written off as frozen back into play.
