Iran's army says it struck strategic U.S. military assets in Kuwait and Bahrain, shortly after Egypt reported a drone hit on two ships at its Damietta port. The exchanges follow a fresh U.S. strike wave on Iranian targets, marking a renewed escalation in the war that started between the two countries in late February.

Iran's army said on Friday it had launched attacks on strategic U.S. assets and military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, following the latest wave of U.S. strikes against the Islamic Republic. The announcement covers two separate strikes carried out over the preceding days.

Kuwait and Bahrain bases hit

Tehran said it targeted aircraft shelters, satellite communication systems and equipment storage facilities used by the U.S. military at Kuwait's Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base in a drone strike, according to state media. Iran's army also claimed to have attacked U.S. facilities at Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain on Thursday, targeting power generators, navigation systems and support buildings.

Response to a U.S. strike wave

The claims follow U.S. forces completing a large wave of strikes against Iran on Wednesday, hitting dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets nationwide. The latest exchange reflects a resumption of hostilities between the two countries, while drone strikes on energy infrastructure have proliferated across the Middle East.

Drone strike hits Egyptian port

Egypt said Thursday that a drone hit two ships at its Mediterranean port of Damietta, triggering a fire. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the strike, which marks the first attack on Egyptian soil since the war between the U.S. and Iran started in late February.
