South Korea's KOSPI jumped more than 3.5% to a three-week high, pushed up by AI and semiconductor stocks. The index has now gained nearly 30% from its late-July low, with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix leading the advance and foreign investors returning as buyers.
South Korea's KOSPI jumped more than 3.5%, reaching a three-week high as AI and semiconductor stocks drove the rebound. As a result, the index has gained nearly 30% from its late-July low below 5,300, pulling it closer to bull-market territory.
Chipmakers are behind most of the move. Samsung Electronics is up about 40% from its July lows. SK Hynix has gained more than 30% over the same period.
Foreign investors are adding to the rally, rather than staying on the sidelines. They bought about $2 billion of KOSPI shares on Wednesday, a sign of renewed appetite for South Korean equities.
However, the rally still rests on a narrow base. Samsung and SK Hynix together make up more than 55% of the index, leaving the broader KOSPI highly dependent on global AI demand holding up.
