Options traders drove Meta trading volume to about 4.5 times its 30-day average on Monday, with nearly $3.9 billion in total premium exchanged. The surge tracks a 21% rally since Meta unveiled its Muse personal AI assistant, which has already topped app store charts.
Options traders piled into Meta on Monday, pushing contract volume to roughly 4.5 times the stock's 30-day average. Almost $3.9 billion in total premium changed hands, according to Cboe LiveVol and SpotGamma data. More than twice as many calls were likely bought versus puts, and seven of the top 10 trades were either bullish or neutral.
Shares jump alongside options activity
Meta shares surged 12% Monday, landing within 7% of the stock's all-time high from August 2025. The move adds to a 21% rally since the company unveiled details of its personal assistant Muse. Meta also announced plans for a subsea cable, called Petal, to send data across the Atlantic Ocean.
The most actively traded contracts Monday were zero-day-to-expiry options with strikes already in the money, ranging from the 720 to 745-strike calls. Beyond that, traders showed heavy volume in the 775 and 800-strike calls expiring in mid-October.
Muse fuels the bullish bet
According to Brent Kochuba, founder of options analytics platform SpotGamma: "The inflows in options are huge". He said it seems like AI hype around Muse.
Meta's Muse AI personal agent tool has been out for nearly two weeks and is topping app store charts. It has racked up 730,000 downloads over about five days after its Sep. 8 launch, according to a CNBC report citing analytics firm Sensor Tower.
More than $1.3 billion in call premium traded was likely initiated by call-buyers, SpotGamma data show, while about $1.1 billion was tied to selling, suggesting a bullish bias balanced by hedging to the upside. The session's biggest dollar-size trader, however, took what appeared to be a net $20 million short position across a handful of spread trades centered on the sale of a one-by-two 710/765-strike call spread expiring Oct. 16 that profits if Meta slips below $740.
