NuScale Power shares fell 15.67% to $8.61 on Sept. 13, extending a slide from the stock's October 2025 peak. Motley Fool contributor Steven Porrello predicts a $1,000 investment in NuScale at $10 a share today could grow to $5,742 by 2030 if commercial progress helps the stock reclaim its 52-week high, pointing to a potential 72-module deployment with the Tennessee Valley Authority as the catalyst to watch.

Shares drop as sell-off deepens

NuScale Power stock dropped 15.67%, or $1.60, to $8.61, trading within a day's range of $8.57 to $9.77. The move sits within a much wider 52-week range of $7.21 to $57.42, spanning the stock's mid-October 2025 high.

Porrello writes that Wall Street's enthusiasm for nuclear stocks was considerably higher back then, as investors bet on nuclear power as a source for expanding AI data centers. He suspects many investors underestimated how slowly nuclear projects move, since no company can impulsively bring a reactor online.

NuScale, though still the only U.S. company with an NRC-certified small modular reactor design, got punished with a roughly 83% sell-off for not being as close to commercial deployment as investors had probably hoped. The stock now carries a market cap of $3.5 billion.

A TVA deal could shift the story

NuScale has not yet notched its first commercial deployment, but its partner ENTRA1 Energy could change that. Through ENTRA1, the company could deploy up to 72 modules to the Tennessee Valley Authority across multiple sites, a project Porrello says alone could generate significant revenue. He argues that if the TVA proposal becomes a binding agreement, investors would have a much stronger reason to revisit NuScale stock.

Porrello cautions that an old high is no guarantee of a future return, and NuScale remains exposed to broader market volatility. Still, he believes future power demand could help the stock earn its way back to its former high — this time, he says, on the strength of binding agreements rather than hype.
