Natural gas is consolidating at $3.19 between support at $3.16 and resistance at $3.22. Momentum indicators give mixed signals, and a break of either level could set the next direction.
Natural gas is trading at $3.19 on the 5-hour chart, squeezed between support at $3.16 and resistance at $3.22. Investing.com says the next breakout could set the tone for days.
Compression follows a prior rally
The price is trapped between support at $3.16 and resistance near $3.22 after a prior rally, with a tight Ichimoku cloud and a cluster of moving averages around it. Volume is fading, which Investing.com says may signal a larger move is brewing.
Bulls and bears each hold a level
Bulls point to the longer trend. Price stays above the 200-period SMA at $3.19, and the SuperTrend still shows green at $3.162. But price sits beneath the 20-SMA at $3.224, the first hurdle on any upward move.
Bears cite short-term momentum. A bearish MACD cross and repeated lower highs since the $3.334 peak point lower. Any close below $3.16 could confirm a double-top pattern, exposing downside to $3.06 and $2.98.
Levels traders are watching
The 50 SMA, SuperTrend and Fib 23.6% line up at $3.16–$3.17, which Investing.com calls a battleground. Bulls need a bounce off support or a close above $3.25 for a momentum breakout, while bears want a break below $3.16 for confirmation.
Invalidation sits at $3.245 for the bear case and $3.120 for the bull case. ATR stands at 0.056 (1.75%), and risk expands quickly once price escapes the range.
