New Zealand's second-quarter GDP data beat forecasts on both a yearly and quarterly basis, giving NZD/USD a modest lift. The economy grew faster than expected even as quarterly momentum slowed from the prior period.

The New Zealand dollar edged higher against the US dollar after gross domestic product data for the second quarter of 2026 came in stronger than economists had forecast. The move was modest, but the beat gave NZD/USD a small boost.

The economy expanded 2.6% year-over-year in Q2, ahead of the 2.3% consensus estimate and up from 1.7% growth in the prior period. On a quarterly basis, GDP rose 0.2%, also topping the 0.1% forecast, though the pace slowed from the previous quarter's 0.9% expansion.
