North Korea fired an unidentified projectile toward the sea off its east coast, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said. The launch follows a dismissive statement from Kim Yo Jong over a DMZ mine blast that wounded two South Korean soldiers, as tensions between the two Koreas keep escalating.
North Korea fired an unidentified projectile toward the sea off its east coast, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. The launch came after Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of leader Kim Jong Un, issued a statement dismissing Seoul's demand for an apology over North Korean mines that wounded South Korean soldiers.
South Korea said this week that North Korean mines caused a blast that seriously injured two South Korean soldiers on a reconnaissance mission inside the 4-km-wide border that stretches across the Korean Peninsula. The mines detonated within the Demilitarized Zone, the heavily fortified buffer separating the two countries.
North Korea has sharply ramped up hostility against the South in recent years. Pyongyang has disavowed unification as a national goal, and according to Reuters now calls South Korea its "primary foe."
