NAVER is scaling its GAK Sejong data center to 200 megawatts by 2028, backed by roughly $10 billion from Nvidia and Brookfield Asset Management. Nvidia is putting a targeted $1 billion directly into the Korean platform, which will run the chipmaker’s Vera Rubin and Blackwell systems.

Nvidia and Brookfield Asset Management are putting roughly $10 billion behind NAVER’s plan to scale its GAK Sejong AI data center from 55 megawatts to a full 200 megawatts by 2028. South Korea’s dominant search platform is positioning the site as domestically owned computing power rather than capacity rented from US hyperscalers.

The money behind the buildout

Brookfield signed on as the exclusive capital partner with a commitment of up to $9 billion. Nvidia is contributing a targeted $1 billion directly into NAVER, and NAVER itself covers whatever remains.

The project rolls out in phases, with the first 55 MW deployment scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2027. A second expansion to 100 MW follows later that year, before the full 200 MW capacity arrives in 2028. The deal builds on an earlier agreement struck in June 2026 between NAVER and Nvidia.

Running on Vera Rubin and Blackwell

On the hardware side, the facility will run Nvidia’s latest AI platforms, including its Vera Rubin and Blackwell architectures. NAVER and its partners call the project “sovereign AI infrastructure”computing power a country owns and controls domestically rather than relying on US-based hyperscalers.

The announcement was timed to coincide with South Korean President Jae Myung Lee’s visit to an AI summit in San Francisco. NAVER designed the site to serve both Korean enterprises and US clients, and it frames a longer-term vision of gigawatt-scale sovereign infrastructure. The platform is also developing its HyperCLOVA X models with Nvidia’s Nemotron Coalition.

The energy question

A 200 MW facility draws serious power, and that consumption shapes the economics of both AI training and cryptocurrency mining. As AI sites compete with miners for energy in regions with constrained grids, the cost dynamics for proof-of-work networks could shift.
