Nvidia signed agreements with several suppliers to expand manufacturing capacity for its computing platforms. It plans to raise substrate capacity by 2.5x over the next three years and expects its semiconductor testing capacity to double from calendar 2026 to 2027.
Nvidia plans to increase substrate capacity by 2.5x over the next three years, according to a press release statement. The company announced agreements with IBIDEN, Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Unimicron Technology Corporation to deliver the expansion.
Substrate deals span Japan, South Korea and Taiwan
Nvidia is providing a multibillion-dollar capacity reservation advance to support IBIDEN's Ono Plant in Japan, which targets 3x current capacity levels. Additional capacity is expected to begin ramping in the first quarter of 2028.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics is joining Nvidia's substrate supply chain with existing capacity from its South Korean operations. The collaboration supports facility upgrades and new factories in Sejong and Busan.
In Taiwan, Nvidia is supporting Unimicron's substrate expansion with a capacity reservation agreement. The expansion is expected to begin adding capacity in the second quarter of 2027 and reach full capacity by mid-2028.
Packaging and testing capacity grows
Amkor Technology, meanwhile, plans to expand advanced packaging capacity in South Korea, targeting a greater than 300% increase in interposer wafer capacity by the end of 2028.
Testing is next. Nvidia expects its total semiconductor testing capacity to double from calendar 2026 to 2027, supported by buildouts in the U.S., Taiwan and Singapore. A $1.1 billion capacity reservation advance to King Yuan Electronics will support new U.S. testing facilities and equipment, with high-volume production targeted for April 2027.
The King Yuan deal rests on a prepayment agreement signed on October 13, 2026, according to Crypto Briefing.
Siliconware Precision Industries, for its part, is targeting a 15x increase in optical-engine capacity for co-packaged optics by mid-2027, with aims for another doubling by the end of 2028.
