Nvidia unveiled a new AI agent security platform on Monday and expanded its stock buyback program by $150 billion, bringing the total to $235 billion. The announcements land as Jensen Huang prepares for a second White House appearance in a week.
Nvidia rolled out a security system on Monday designed to stop AI agents from acting beyond their intended scope. The company also disclosed a $150bn expansion of its stock buyback program, pushing the total authorization to $235 billion.
OpenShell and Sentry target rogue agents
The new platform, called the Open Agent Safety Platform, includes open-source software named OpenShell that lets developers formally verify an agent has enough authority to do its job and no more. Because it is open source, developers can extend it to run on rival computing platforms, including those from Arm and Intel.
A separate layer called Sentry runs on the chip itself, continuously monitoring agent activity. According to Nvidia's vice-president of enterprise AI, Justin Boitano: "it can quarantine a suspicious agent in milliseconds." Boitano said the system could have stopped a recent breach in which a swarm of OpenAI agents autonomously hacked into Hugging Face, had it been in use at frontier labs during model evaluation.
Nvidia said more than 100 organizations were using the platform at launch, including Microsoft, Perplexity, Accenture and JPMorgan Chase.
A $150bn buyback alongside the safety push
Nvidia's board approved the buyback expansion the same day, with CEO Jensen Huang saying the company's cash generation lets it invest in AI technology while returning capital to shareholders. Last month, Nvidia forecast about 70% revenue growth for fiscal 2028, a figure that has helped reassure investors questioning how long the AI spending surge can last.
Huang returns to the White House
The safety rollout comes as Huang heads back to Washington. He is expected to attend a Tuesday "Golden Age" meeting with President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, his second White House appearance in less than a week after sitting at the head table for Trump's state dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 24.
Nvidia has pledged $500 billion in investments tied to favorable US policy on AI and semiconductor exports.
