Nvidia unveiled NVQLink, an open architecture interconnect linking quantum processors with its GPU-accelerated supercomputers. More than a dozen supercomputing centers, including nine US national laboratories, adopted the standard within three weeks, and a coalition of 17 quantum-processor builders and five controller vendors has formed around it.
Nvidia unveiled NVQLink on October 28, 2025, an open architecture interconnect built to connect quantum processing units with Nvidia's GPU-accelerated supercomputers. CEO Jensen Huang described it as the "Rosetta Stone" for quantum-classical interplay. The move positions Nvidia as the connective layer between two computing worlds rather than a builder of quantum hardware itself.
What NVQLink actually does
NVQLink delivers latency under 4 microseconds and throughput up to 400 Gb/s between GPUs and quantum processing units, using RDMA over Ethernet. It integrates with Nvidia's existing CUDA-Q software platform and works across superconducting qubits, trapped-ion systems, and photonic architectures. Each connected system can deliver up to 40 petaflops of AI performance at FP4 with sparsity.
Quantinuum's Helios QPU, connected through NVQLink to an Nvidia GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip, achieved real-time quantum error correction decoding 32 times faster than standard requirements. The system posted a reaction time of 67 microseconds and improved logical-qubit error rates by 5.4 times for an eight-logical-qubit memory.
Early adoption is already underway
By November 17, 2025, less than three weeks after the announcement, more than a dozen supercomputing centers globally had started working with NVQLink. Nine of those are US national laboratories. Nvidia has also assembled a coalition of 17 QPU builders and five controller vendors around the NVQLink standard.
Why Nvidia is hedging its bets
Nvidia's leadership has been explicit that future GPU supercomputers will be hybridized with quantum processors. By building the bridge rather than the quantum processor itself, Nvidia avoids picking sides among quantum modalities: if superconducting qubits win, NVQLink works, and if trapped ions prove superior, NVQLink works just the same.
