Opendoor Technologies shares fell 8.84% on Oct. 16 after reports of fresh 52-week lows and higher debt costs. The stock closed at $2.12 as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite also finished lower. Investors now look to early November earnings for guidance, liquidity, and margin trends.
Opendoor Technologies closed at $2.12, down 8.84% on Oct. 16, 2026. The slide followed reports of fresh 52-week lows and higher debt costs for the digital home buying, selling, and settlement platform.
Volume reached 64.6 million shares, about 53% above the three-month average of 42.1 million shares.
Shares retreat from a rebound
The stock still felt the sting of a plunge to an all-time low of $1.93 during intraday trading on Oct. 15. It had recovered from that low as a sharp drop in the 10-year Treasury yield fueled a small rally.
That trend reversed on Friday. A sluggish housing market battling rising interest rates kept Wall Street investors concerned about the company and the real estate sector in general. Among peers, Zillow Group closed at $31.88, down 1.70%.
Broader indexes also close lower
The S&P 500 closed at 7,659, down 1.09%. The Nasdaq Composite finished at 26,140, down 2.14%.
Revenue falls and losses widen
Opendoor is working to transform its business amid declining sales. In the second quarter, it reported revenue of $883 million, down from $1.6 billion in 2025. Costs rose, which produced a Q2 net loss of $162 million, compared with a loss of $29 million in the prior year.
Last week, Opendoor said its home-loan unit exited beta and added fixed and adjustable mortgages. The offering could broaden the platform and support transaction volume. The company also forecast Q3 sales growth of 20% year over year, and investors will watch the next earnings report to see whether it delivers.
