Palantir shares jumped 26% after the company beat earnings expectations and raised guidance. CEO Alex Karp used the results to sharpen his attack on OpenAI and Anthropic, arguing enterprises should avoid their closed AI models in favor of Palantir's model-agnostic approach.

Earnings beat sends shares up 26%

Palantir reported earnings after the close, and shares climbed 26% as the company beat expectations and raised its guidance. Quarterly revenue reached $1.94 billion, a 93% year-over-year jump. GAAP net income hit $1.062 billion.

Trailing 12-month revenue growth stood at 79%. The company also posted 51% cash flow margins, according to The Motley Fool. The US commercial segment, seen as the laggard next to Palantir's government business, saw growth accelerate to approximately 149% year-over-year in Q2.

Karp escalates the case against frontier AI

Karp used the results to intensify his ongoing critique of what he calls "frontier AI" labs, taking direct aim at OpenAI and Anthropic. His argument: these labs prioritize model expansion over what enterprises actually need — control, privacy, and ownership of their own data.

According to Crypto Briefing, Karp accused frontier labs of trying to "drug addict" enterprises into controlled AI futures, implying that companies feeding data into closed, third-party systems are slowly ceding operational autonomy. He also introduced the term "tokenmaxxing" to describe what he sees as frontier labs pushing enterprises toward oversimplified, controlled interactions with their own data.

Palantir positions itself as the alternative. Its platform is model-agnostic, meaning it doesn't force customers onto any single provider's models, and the company advocates for open-weight AI deployed inside customer-owned environments. A partnership with Nvidia for sovereign AI implementations backs that pitch, letting clients run AI capabilities on their own infrastructure.

Its roots in defense and intelligence work make data sovereignty a requirement rather than a preference for many of its customers, and that installed base gives the sovereignty argument a natural audience.
