Pi Network Clarifies Stablecoin Role, Says PI Stays Primary Asset

Pi Network's Core Team has outlined how stablecoins could fit into its ecosystem following last week's partnership with Open Standard, while confirming PI will remain the network's main cryptocurrency. The team has not confirmed that OUSD is live on Pi Mainnet, and no rollout date or Pioneer rewards details exist yet. The clarification lands as PI trades near $0.081, recovering from a three-month low.

Pi Network's Core Team has detailed how stablecoins could support its ecosystem, but the message is clear: PI keeps its place as the primary digital asset. The explanation follows the partnership with Open Standard announced last week, which first put stablecoin integration on the table.

Stablecoins get a narrower role

In an update published earlier this week, the team said stablecoins could support use cases where predictable pricing matters most, including commerce, payments, accounting, and settlement. However, their role is meant to stay narrower than that of PI, which is expected to remain the primary digital asset across all network processes.

Earlier this month, Pi Network first signaled it would explore the stablecoin market through reward programs for Pioneers and broader OUSD utility tied to its partnership with Open Standard, a group that includes more than 200 participants across finance, payments, technology, and crypto. The team said stablecoins could bring more economic activity inside the ecosystem rather than pushing users toward external infrastructure.

Still, the Core Team is moving cautiously. It said it is working on principles to govern future integrations and is emphasizing compliance as an important consideration. According to Pi Network: "Pi's approach to stablecoins" is one of the topics covered in its latest mining app update. The Core Team has not confirmed that OUSD is already integrated on Pi Mainnet, and there is no rollout date or Pioneer rewards program detail yet.

PI slides to a three-month low

The broader market correction of the past few days did not spare PI. The token traded well above $0.09 until a week ago, then crashed after losing that support level on October 7. Bears drove it down to $0.078, a three-month low.

PI has since recovered slightly alongside most other major crypto assets and currently trades above $0.081. Its market cap has plummeted to $915 million. That makes it the 69th-largest cryptocurrency by that metric on CMC.
