Polymarket traders now put the odds of bitcoin reaching $80,000 in September at 64%, down nearly 30% since Sept. 9, while a dip to $75,000 prices higher at 68.5%. Bitcoin's intraday high of $79,505 came within $495 of triggering a yes. The Fed's Sept. 15-16 meeting stands as the last catalyst before the contract expires.

Downside Now Prices Above the Upside

Traders on Polymarket have made a September dip to $75,000 more likely than a climb to $80,000, pricing the $75,000 rung at 68.5% against 64% for $80,000, with 18 days left on the clock. The $80,000 contract has fallen nearly 30% since Sept. 9.

Further out on the board, $82,500 prices at 39.5%, $85,000 at 23.5%, $87,500 at 13.5% and $90,000 at 8.5%, with $100,000 priced at just 1.75%. On the downside, $72,500 sits at 40.5% and $70,000 at 22.5%; only below $65,000, at 7.5%, does the downside get cheaper than the corresponding move up.

What the $80,000 Market Actually Asks

Polymarket's "Will Bitcoin reach $80,000 in September?" market resolves yes if a single one-minute Binance BTC/USDT candle prints a high at or above $80,000 before 11:59 p.m. ET on Sept. 30. The market was created on Sept. 7, and its rules state that price action before creation does not count, even though bitcoin had already traded at $81,265 on Sept. 4 and $80,329 on Sept. 7.

Bitcoin ran to an intraday high of $79,505 earlier today, missing a yes resolution by $495. The September price event has drawn $5.17 million in total volume. That volume is backed by about $1.46 million in liquidity, making it one of the platform's more actively traded bitcoin markets.

The Fed Meeting Is the Last Catalyst

Three dates stood between bitcoin's price and a resolution of this range: jobless claims on Sept. 10, August CPI on Sept. 11, and the Federal Open Market Committee meeting on Sept. 15-16. Two of those have passed, and both landed on the hawkish side, as the August core inflation reading came in hotter than forecast and rate-hike odds jumped rather than eased.

That leaves the Fed decision as the single event most capable of resolving these contracts in either direction before Sept. 30, since a hike would tighten conditions into a market that spent August running hard.
