Ripple Prime now offers institutions around-the-clock swaps that reference more than 100 traditional financial markets, priced off Trade.xyz perpetual contracts on Hyperliquid. The structure offers cross-margining and RLUSD collateral, but the source flags weekend repricing and hedging as unresolved risks.
Institutions can trade swaps referencing more than 100 traditional financial markets around the clock, with Ripple Prime as the principal counterparty, Ripple announced on Oct. 15. The swaps cover stocks, equity indices, ETFs, metals, energy and foreign exchange.
How Ripple structures the product
Ripple offers consolidated margining across the supported asset classes and accepts RLUSD as eligible collateral, subject to jurisdiction. The product runs through Ripple Prime's British Virgin Islands entity, with other regions planned.
It builds on Ripple Prime's February Hyperliquid integration and the total-return swaps Ripple announced in August. The new elements are the Trade.xyz reference markets and continuous trading.
Citing 0xArchive, CryptoSlate reports that Trade.xyz handled $59.4 billion of perpetual volume in September, 23.9% of Hyperliquid's total, across 110 listed markets. Weekend volume averaged $541 million a day, and all of these are venue-wide figures.
Pricing while stock exchanges are closed
Trade.xyz's oracle references conventional prices during external trading sessions. It switches to internal pricing from its own order book when those inputs go quiet, and the oracle adjusts toward that book over 30 minutes.
An 0xArchive study of 614 market-weekends found the final weekend price closer to the reopening price than the Friday close in 70.7% of observations. Median absolute error fell from 113.3 to 53.4 basis points. The Hyperliquid Policy Center funded the research.
Margin and hedging questions
Pooled margin can lower collateral needs when positions offset. In CryptoSlate's hypothetical $100 million portfolio, an assumed 25% offset cuts requirements from $13.2 million to $9.9 million.
However, the same example shows the downside. With $15 million of RLUSD posted at an assumed 5% haircut, headroom is $4.3 million, and a 6% equity decline, a 7% energy decline and RLUSD at $0.99 turn that into a $2.2 million shortfall. Ripple's own risk disclosures cover collateral calls, basis risk and stablecoin depegging.
Ripple's announcement leaves position sizes, Virtu's volumes, collateral haircuts, margin schedules and default protections undisclosed. The source says each client position could be hedged on Hyperliquid, in another market, or internally. It adds that XRP sits outside the collateral and settlement mechanics in the announcement.
