Shiba Inu is closing out its strongest third quarter on record, with a cumulative gain of 44.1% driven by consecutive monthly advances after a June correction. The rally sets up October, historically the token's strongest month, though traders should note the gap between its headline average return and a far more modest median.
Shiba Inu is finishing Q3 2026 with its best quarterly return in five years, and the token is entering October from a position of strength rather than weakness. As of September 23, amid a massive influx of liquidity into the crypto market, SHIB has built a solid technical foundation heading into what traders call "Uptober."
A reversal from a historically weak quarter
The end of the third quarter has typically been SHIB's softest stretch, with September averaging just a 5.5% return in past years. This year broke that pattern. Following a 24% correction in June, the coin moved into consecutive monthly gains alongside the broader market.
SHIB rose 12.2% in July, then 7.55% in August. It has gained another 19.4% in September so far. Together, those moves push the quarter's cumulative return to 44.1%, the token's best Q3 since the 2021 rally.
On the weekly SHIB/USD chart, the price action confirms a local structural reversal. After a prolonged decline through the prior year, the token formed a double-bottom reversal pattern in the $0.0000034–$0.0000045 range, from which it is gradually breaking out to the upside.
Macro backdrop drove the move
The recovery has been driven by the wider market backdrop. Over the same period, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization surged from $2.15 trillion to $2.89 trillion, breaking out of a prolonged consolidation. A synchronized breakout in RSI and global market volumes of this kind last occurred in late 2023.
What October's pattern could mean
SHIB's average October return stands at 167.5%. That figure is driven almost entirely by the token's 833.6% surge in October 2021. The median return is a far more modest 6.04%, so professional market participants approach the average with caution.
Still, the setup differs from past cycles. SHIB is entering October not from a period of decline but from a sustained quarterly uptrend. The nearest resistance sits at the psychological threshold of $0.0000075, a breakout above which could open the door to testing long-term highs around $0.0000110.
