Solana's futures volume more than doubled in a day while its price stayed flat near $75, a divergence that could lead to a much more volatile next move. Positioning across major exchanges leans heavily long, and liquidation data already shows the risk building underneath the market.
Solana's price barely moved over the past day even as derivatives activity surged. Futures volume on several major exchanges more than doubled in that stretch, but the positioning behind it points toward downside risk rather than fresh demand.
Futures volume jumps across exchanges
Binance's 24-hour SOL futures volume reached about $890 million, up 144.8%. Bybit added 108.6%. OKX's volume rose 146.1%. Gate, Bitget, and Hyperliquid saw increases of roughly 154%, 210%, and 168%, respectively.
Yet SOL's 24-hour performance stayed essentially flat, still close to $75.30. That gap suggests the surge in trading has not translated into strong directional demand. Positioning also leans heavily long: OKX's long/short ratio sits at 2.42, while Binance's account ratio is roughly 2.43. Its top-trader ratio runs even higher, at 2.71. This does not guarantee a decline, but it leaves SOL more exposed to liquidations if it loses support. About $6.07 million in SOL positions were liquidated over the day, including $4.60 million in longs and $1.47 million in shorts.
Short-term levels take shape
SOL trades below its intermediate moving average, at about $78.10. The long-term moving average sits considerably higher, at $89.26, pointing to a weak overall structure. Short-term support runs between $74 and $75; losing that area could expose SOL to a move toward $70-$72, then to the lows of July and August. If buyers regain control instead, the volume expansion could work in SOL's favor.
A persistent break above $78-$80 would be the first sign that rising participation reflects accumulation rather than speculative leverage. For now, crowded long positioning and heavier futures activity create asymmetric risk: if SOL fails to break out, some of the new leverage built around it may get forced out through another retrace.
